Hi! My name is Renee Ryan and I’m the author of over 30 published novels. I grew up in a small Florida beach town where I learned how to surf poorly, skateboard just as poorly, and build sandcastles with some finesse. I was also a ballet dancer, a so-so gymnast, and an avid reader. You can learn more about me and all my books here on my site, and on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. While I have always loved reading and writing romance, I do adore a good historical fiction novel. My newest release is set in Nazi occupied France during WWII—THE WIDOWS OF CHAMPAGNE.

In this captivating story of resilience, three generations of women battle to save their family’s vineyard from the ravages of WWII.

Gabrielle Leblanc Dupree is taking her family’s future into her hands. While she should be preparing for a lavish party to celebrate two centuries of champagne making, she secretly hides Chateau Fouché-Leblanc’s most precious vintages behind a fake wall in the cellar in preparation for the looming war. But when she joins the resistance, the coveted champagne isn’t the most dangerous secret her cellar must conceal…

As the title suggests, the book is set in the Champagne region of France in an old, stately chateau on a working vineyard. I loved learning about the arduous process it takes to make world class champagne, starting with the growing of the grapes through both of the two fermentations. Yes, two! Champagne is arguably France’s greatest treasure. The Germans stole millions of bottles between 1940 and 1945, all but decimating the livelihood of the growers and vignerons. I relished telling a multi-layered story that highlighted what the French (especially French women) suffered during Nazi occupation.

Many people ask me if I’ve been to France. Sadly, my trip was delayed due to Covid-19. My goal is to get there in 2022. Will she, or won’t she? Stay tuned. In the meantime…
